Haines Junction

Gateway to Kluane

This village is east of Kluane National Park and Reserve, at the junction of Alaska Highway with Haines Highway. Apparently, that's why it's called Haines Junction!
We started our trip from Whitehorse, Yukon, and after driving around 155 km, we arrived at the village. The drive along the Alaska Highway itself was a stunning experience all on its own. Here are some photos!

Inside the village

The village of Haines Junction is located in the Traditional Territory of the Aishihik and Champagne First Nations. We couldn't visit the Thechal Dhal visitor centre, as it was closed. Instead, we wandered around the community, which is very small, and really enjoyed the views! After hiking a small portion of the Dezadeash River Trail, we finished our journey by eating supper at Mile 1016 Pub.

Driving back to Whitehorse

We made our way back to Whitehorse as the sun was setting over the mountains.
